FS announces construction of third corn ethanol plant in Mata Grosso

In Brazil, FS Agrisolutions Indústria de Biocombustíveis Ltda (FS) a joint venture between Summit Brazil Renewables I LLC a subsidiary of Summit Agricultural Group (SAG), and Tapajós Participações S.A (previously Fiagril), has announced its expansion in the State of Mato Grosso (MT) with the construction of a third corn ethanol facility in MT – a 150 million (US) gallon (≈ million litres) per annum biorefinery in Primavera do Leste.

US dollars
FS Agrisolutions Indústria de Biocombustíveis Ltda (FS) is investing US$420 million in a third corn ethanol plant in the State of Mato Grosso (MT), Brazil. The 150 million (US) gallon (≈ million litres) per annum biorefinery will be built in Primavera do Leste.

根据一项声明,网站准备有规律eady commenced for the BRL 2.3 billion (US$ 420 million) investment with commissioning scheduled for 2023.

The Primavera do Leste project will generate approximately 8 000 indirect jobs during the construction phase and 500 direct and indirect jobs during its operation.

Primavera do Leste is a very important region for FS due to the large supply of corn and its strategic location for the distribution of our products. Like our other existing locations, zero fossil fuels will be used in the production process driving the global benchmark for low carbon biofuel production, said Rafael Abud, CEO of FS.

Largest corn ethanol producer in Brazil

FS has two corn ethanol plants operating in Mato Grosso – amongst the largest in the country utilizing corn as a feedstock, in Lucas do Rio Verde and Sorriso respectively with a combined annual production capacity of over 375 million gallons (≈ million litres).

When the Primavera do Leste plant becomes operational, the company is expected to become one of the three largest ethanol producers in Brazil, reaching a production capacity of 525 million gallons (≈ million litres) per year.

With the full implementation of its investment plan, which includes three more plants by 2026 also in the state, FS would reach a total annual production capacity of 1.3 billion gallons (≈ billion litres) of ethanol.

Sustainability-based expansion

In 2020 FS obtained RenovaBio accreditation and the ability to issue decarbonization credits (CBIOs), and in 2021 made six long-term commitments to society –FS 2030 Sustainability Commitment.

According to FS, these commitments have goals correlated with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and are in line with the Paris Agreement. In addition, FS says that it currently has the best Energy-Environmental Efficiency Score (NEEA) of anhydrous ethanol in the country.

According toSustainalytics, a Morningstar Company that provides high-quality, analytical environmental, social and governance (ESG) research, ratings and data to institutional investors and companies, FS is also the only producer of certified corn ethanol with the disclosure of primary data disclosure that includes full traceability of agricultural emissions from grain suppliers and adherers to theClimate Bonds Initiative, an international, investor-focused not-for-profit.

InJune 2021 FS announced plansfor Brazil’s first bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) project. Located at FS Lucas do Rio Verde plant, the BECCS project has made “significant progress” throughout the year, which includes hiring Schlumberger as a key partner for geological and injection studies.

全面实施后,of this project, FS is expected to be the first corn ethanol plant globally to produce a negative carbon liquid biofuel at scale.
